Bradley Cooper: Road To Recovery

Bradley Cooper, despite being a prominent face in films focusing on drugs and alcohol like The Hangover series, he was sober and actively in recovery during the filming and release of the entire series. He is also well known for his performances in American SniperLimitless, and A Star is Born. In this article you will learn about Bradley Cooper’s recovery journey from addiction.

Bradley reflects upon his time using drugs and alcohol as the lowest point in his life. He reports the lowest points of his addiction were during the filming of the show Alias, with Jennifer Garner. He highlights that during this time he felt as though he was losing himself. He even went as far as to say he “wanted to f–king kill himself.”

About Addiction

The disease of addiction does not discriminate. It affects people of all race, age, and sex, even celebrities. The causes for addiction have always been argued. Is it genetic, or rather a result of experiences? It all comes back to the nature vs nurture debate. While there are frequently underlying conditions like depression and anxiety that contribute to addiction, some people end up addicted from experimentation and abuse of drugs recreationally.

Unfortunately, once people use drugs for a short period of time, there is an increased likelihood for addiction. As they use more frequently to experience the euphoric effects, they gain a tolerance and dependence to the drugs. This leads to addiction. As the disease progresses, people lose the ability to stop or control their use.

Bradley Cooper: Start to Recovery

This affliction led Bradley Cooper down a dark path where he nearly lost himself. He reported some pretty scary experiences in his past, however he is thankful that he was able to get out without any permanent health effects. Cooper stated that during his addiction, he was always concerned with not meeting his full potential and overthinking how people perceived him. Essentially, he was uncomfortable in his own skin and would have never continued to succeed had he not sought out recovery.

Shortly after entering sobriety, Cooper landed his role in the first Hangover movie. He said filming in recovery was a completely different experience. He said he could finally “be himself”, also noting that it was an eye opening moment.

Bradley Cooper: Recovery Success

The road of recovery was a successful one for Bradley to say the least. His success in the hangover was only the beginning. He then landed roles in Silver Lining’s Playbook, and American Sniper. These films are often considered to be some of his most diverse roles. This was all possible thanks to recovery.

Bradley attributes everything he has today to his sobriety.  He stated “I would never be sitting here with you, no way, no chance. He continued to say “I wouldn’t have been able to have access to myself or other people, or even been able to take in other people, if I hadn’t changed my life. I never would have been able to have the relationships that I do. I never would have been able to take care of my father the way I did when he was sick. So many things”.

Without finding himself and a road to recovery, who knows where Bradley’s career would have ended up. Thankfully, he found sobriety. This is possible for anyone who seeks it and works for it. Treatment programs are innovating and finding more effective ways to treat people struggling with addiction.
